#11 solves the problem for me as well. With a fresh Raring Ringtail install and
a new Dia install, the persistence file is not in the ".dia" folder. Adding the
one from #11 works.

Fix #7 doesn't work here.
With a fresh install of Dia, the directory {HOME}/.dia/ doesn't contain a file
called persistence. It only contains directories objects, shapes, & sheets (all
empty). Creating the file myself and inserting the xml doesn't work.
Any other suggestions?

Still happens with up to date raring packages.
After starting Dia, one sees its window for about one second and then it
crashes.
Yes, it's still possible to run Dia from the command line, but it's barely
usable from there, as most functions are missing. Please fix this bug for the
final version,
