You are right, this is actually affecting other applications, too. I get
the exact same behavior described in the steps to reproduce when using
Chromiu

This particular problem seems to have been resolved on LO 7.3.0.3 on
Windows 10. Rotating these and other Arabic-script characters does not
work as expected (sometimes the text won't rotate at all or if it does,
the letters are in reversed order) but these seem to be separate issues.

Sorry, I take back my word. It's still the same issue in RTL paragraphs
on LO 7.3.0.3. Writing my previous comment, I had only tested LTR
paragraphs, which had other issues. RTL paragraphs still displace the
text one inch to the left and up.

One additional aspect to note is that some desktop monitors reconnect to
the system when returning from power-save mode. In my case the sound
selection is changed to HDMI/DisplayPort whenever this happens. Changing
the sound setting back 10+ times a day is extremely annoying.

I tested the same example sentence with Ubuntu 18.04 and LibreOffice
6.0.3.2. Here’s the output from pdftotext:

Here four out of the eight words are intact, so it’s an improvement to
5.4.6 but still leaves a lot to hope for. The last
LightDM is already able to create the xauthority file locally under
$XDG_RUNTIME_DIR, using configuration option user-authority-in-system-
dir. This option is off by default on Ubuntu 16.04/18.04, but can be
enabled with

Trying to open a gtk2 message box crashes the hosting program. Easiest
way I've been able to reproduce this is to run gtk-demo from the
gtk2.0-examples package, and try to spawn a message dialog from the
Dialog and Message Boxes demo. Nothing is printed to stdout or stderr.

generated if the host kernel differs from the chroot environments
kernel.
