The issue was in hardware, the "front audio" extension to the front of
the case was aparently damaged, I just unplugged it and now everything
is perfect

After some debugging, I ended up doing strace on the pulseaudio server
to see if I could spot the issue and I think this is the closest I got
(in the attachment there's a bit more info):
