First I tried adding "nouveau.modeset=0" to bootflags, which got me to boot but
no greeter.
sddm appeared to be happily running but it failed to start the display server
restarting it did not help

I got it working on a 2015 MacBook Air 7.2
From a 23.04 fresh installation it didin't work neither with a 22.04 fresh

Trawling through the linux-usb and distro kernel mailing list archives
shows that the kernel blocking problem has been around for some time and
discussed at length.
What it seems to boil down to is this:

So whether it be broken/missing libs or bad USB device enumeration
causing upowerd to be either not available or slow to start, it would
seem unity-settings-daemon could at least be improved to be robust
enough not to segfault if upowerd is not present.

It appears any GL application in a Mir session will hard crash the

The command below reserrects the hidden "Software Updater" window when

I think that the sometimes factor is actually whether the profile is
currently logged into Google Services. If I log out of Google and do the
search, I get the client string. If I log back in, when I search again,
there is no string.

My current fix for this is such:
Install Alsa
Install Ubuntu-Desktop
add "sudo killall pulseaudio" to /ect/rc.local
It still loads pulseaudio and its applications but kills the pulse
drivers that run audio handleing on startup.

I have also had this problem. I own a Lenovo x201 that cannot use
PulseAudio thus I have to use Alsa. So whenever I remove pulse I remove
all meta data dealing with system settings. Is there any information
about this yet?

the first word or sometimes not at all since installing 14.04. Now using
firefox which seems to have no such issue. Using 64 bit edition of

I noticed since updating yesterday that certain events on the phone are
no longer animated in a smooth way. For example:
1. Open an app
2. Use the power button to screen blank
3. Turn on the power button
4. swipe the launcher in from the left
5. Click the Home (Ubuntu Logo) b
It's improved, but still present. It's most obvious when moving the mouse
around because the cursor blinks slightly. There was definitely improvement
and it's useable now, although refresh artifacts remain.
