I confirm the new DisplayPort cable resolved the 60Hz issue.
I am still testing Wayland to verify it resolves the issue when working on 3
monitors.

Thank you Daniel.
I'm waiting for a new DisplayPort cable and let you know what happens.
Meanwhile I switched to Wayland the login. I was able to keep the
fractional scaling. I tried not to use it, but it's very hard for me to
use either 100% or 200%. They are definitely too extreme.

I attached the xrandr output. Be advised the two monitors are using
different cables (HDMI and DisplayPort). I am going to buy a new
DisplayPort cable to further test this.

I did change three cables but I still see 60Hz on the second monitor and

Great to hear that. Meanwhile, I would like to know what to do when this
happens.
There is no documentation about resetting the monitors status to default in
this case.

@paulw2u it makes sense, thank you. Since I could not use ubuntu-bug it
was difficult for me guessing the package name.

Public bug reported:
I am not sure how to log this issue, but let's go.
This is a VM with Ubuntu 24.04 running over KVM (Ubuntu 24.04).
At the end of the attached journal, you can find the significant errors coming
from QXL.
This happens after hours or even days after booting, even if I am not

The problem is not on the machine from which I am submitting the bug.
The other machine hangs the xorg session, including mouse and keyboard,

Hi Mario, I strongly suggest to apply the workaround posted by Daniel:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2060268
I could see the issue after this but it's quite a while that it didn't show up.
I would keep this issue open to let some time pass and see if the above

Hi Daniel, I did apply the fix for the ghost screen and it worked.
Anyway, the main issue is still there.
After the black screen, the ubuntu desktop is mirrored instead of extended.
There is no way to restore the extended mode, other than detaching and

In order to restore the monitors to "extend" I manually detached and
re-attached the hdmi cable of the second monitor.
I was confident that it could work, given that I verified to have installed the
updates that you linked me previously.

Here is the screenshot of the wrong display configuration.
Currently I have two monitors attached, they are currently mirroring the same
screen and have the screen is currently larger than the monitor size (when I
move the mouse the screen scrolls).

@Daniel, after a while it just happened again:

Public bug reported:
I have configured the host screen with two monitors extending the desktop.
They are both configured at 3840x2160, scale 150%, fractional scaling: yes.
After a period of inactivity, the screens get blanked as configured.

I already did it few days ago after reading the links, thank you for confirming
that.
If it happens again, I'll send you the log.
Thanks!

Thank you Daniel. I verified that this morning the installed updates
also contained the list of updates you pointed to me.
What about the configuration swithching to mirror?
Is there any workaround for this?
Thanks!

I agree it would make sense.
Basically you are saying that the fixes I applied resolve the bug of resetting
to the default configuration which leads to (let's assume) the mirror
configuration.
If this is correct, why the configuration in the display at this point still
shows me the "Extended" co
