Same issue for me, Dell XPS 13 (2014 I think?), running 16.04 with all
updates. Mark Stosberg's process (#50) fixes it. I realise it's a hack,
but it works - would it make sense to put this in as a fix in the
meantime, given the issue has been open for nearly a year and a half?

Note that with Ubuntu 13.10, and the 319-updates driver, I needed:
libnvidia-opencl.so.319.60
Found by looking at the "installed files" tab of nvidia-319-updates
package in synaptic, and realising that libnvidia-opencl.so.1.

I get the problem as described on Ubuntu 12.04, with a Sony Vaio SVS15116
laptop, and wifi (from lspci):
02:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Centrino Advanced-N 6235 (rev 24)
Every time I manually uncheck "enable wireless" from the networking menu
(default unity setup), it stays greyed
brianbourke75's solution doesn't work for me (with property dialog open,
switching theme makes no difference to the comment field size).

I think what happened is that I changed the software source, without
refreshing. Then, when I tried to install the proprietary drivers, the
download failed, but it didn't handle it properly...
