The workaround can't actually help. It eliminates UI flicking but Ubuntu
still freezes with blinking keyboard indicators after a few minutes of
using.

Ubuntu 14.04 is out and the bug is still not fixed! Ubuntu is unable to
work with nvidia drivers higher than 331.x!

Even Ubuntu 14.04, which is the newest one and almost released, is
affected. I experience exactly the same thing as Neil Rodgers
(neilr1971).
