I received this bug during a recent update and can replicate it by selecting the 'Using NVIDIA binary driver - version 331.38 from nvidia-331-updates (proprietary)' under the 'Additional Drivers' tab of 'Software & Updates', and then hitting 'Apply Changes'. It seems to revert back to the Nouveau
