Unfortunately I've just learned that the pebble photo is also likely not

When booting my plucky laptop with my external VGA monitor attached I
get a login screen in 11.10 that is 1024 x 768 mirrored. It's stretched
on the VGA monitor and displayed neatly in the middle of the screen on
the laptop. When I boot with no monitor attached the login scree
Interestingly I also see this error when I just saved my settings to
switch back from LightDM to GDM - was seeing if this had been fixed or
not. I choose GDM, save my choice and get these errors in the terminal.

In a scenario where I am searching in Ubuntu and the search is taking
too long or I decide I don't want to do it anymore I can see the red
cross next to the word "searching" which I think I should click to
cancel but I can't. It won't let me and no matter how hard I try I can'
I already have lightdm-gtk-greeter installed so I don't think it's that.
Could uninstall and reinstall to see what happens ... Anything else I
can do to help debug this?

When I try and run with the &> banshee-debug.txt the app fails to load
so tried just to run in debug mode, it launched, briefly, and then
crashed before I could try to play any music giving the following

After some digging it appears that lightdm isn't starting properly. One
fix appears to be Ctrl+Alt+F1,user and password and startx but I fixed
it by switching to using GDM - sudo dpkg-reconfigure -plow gdm.
This happened after I ran updates on Wednesday of this week.

Banshee crashing after 1minute 21

Every time I open Banshee it seems to quit/ crash out after exactly 1
minute and 21 seconds. To recreate I open Banshee from the sound menu,
choose any album and double click the first track to play it. Then,
after 1 minute and 21 seconds without any warning it stops playing.
Running Banshee from Terminal I get this error when it closes
