With the following packages installed and the workaround removed the
issue no longer occurs for me when enabling Automatic Login via
Settings. I have tested rebooting and starting from off several times
and it worked as expected each time. Previously the issue occurred on
every boot.

Disabling apparmor for chromium
$ sudo ln -s /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.chromium-browser /etc/apparmor.d/disable/
$ sudo apparmor_parser -R /etc/apparmor.d/disable/usr.bin.chromium-browser
had no effect.
Adding "/dev/tty* rw" right below the line for "/dev/null rw" in
/etc/apparmor.d/disable/usr.
Also: it is chroME that is installed as a snap package, chroMIUM is
installed through apt-get, and it works just fine:

Well, it was not a firmware update that fixed it. I'm on Qubes 4.2
right now and it still has the problem, Qubes is using Xfce 4.12 as
it's desktop manager, which I believe is Ubuntu based. Some update to
Ubuntu must have fixed the problem and it hasn't been rolled into the
Xfce version Qubes is

selecting hybrid graphics in BIOS I booted up and was delighted to see

Using the original workaround (not comment #8), I have gotten back Wacom
input, and it is preserved across sleep. So maybe the updated udevs rule
is not right either. I haven't tested it. I had to reboot to put the new

I have this bug too on my 14.04.1 LTS, login does not show my wallpaper
as it should, it shows default Ubuntu wallpaper, lockscreen correctly
shows my wallpaper but login does not, it is a fresh installation and
fully updated.
