If it's frozen in Javascript somewhere then we should be able to get a
stacktrace. While frozen, please run:
killall -TRAP gnome-shell
journalctl -b0 /usr/bin/gnome-shell > gslog.txt
and attach the resulting text file here.

Title:
gnome-shell has no response when plug-in unauthorized thunderbolt
Try configuring the VM to not emulate a tablet. This will mean you can
no longer seamlessly move the cursor into and out of the VM but instead
will need to capture the pointer in the VM window.
