Same here on a HP 14 Stream laptop with this Realtek ALC236 sound card
running Xubuntu 20.04. Also pluging in an external headset and
microphone the laptop speakers do not mute and the headphones do not go
live, they remain muted.

the problem is with the sound card . As such if I have sound but it sounds very
low even if I turn it up to the maximum with the sound buttons (yep i use a
laptop) and I have to turn it up manually with alsamixer. And the worst thing
is that even if I save the configuration

scaling, and auto-hide, and dock position left. The issue appears to be
resolved for me.

Same problem here. Switching to Wayland fixes this, of course, but
