The only way to get the audio working again is to lower the volume and
then raise it again.
It's like the daemon shuts off the volume when it's not used.
Some seconds after the clip is played you hear a *plop* sound from the
speaker and once you switch to a new clip you have

I see the same issue after upgrading from Ubuntu 20.04 to 22.04.1, on 2
different computers. It's very frightening for end-users to see Firefox
icon disappear.
I also have to set Firefox as the default browser again (in Firefox
parameters)

Nathan, it looks as if a fix for this problem was "released" a week and
a half ago. Do you have any knowledge of the progress on this? I have
one system here running Ubuntu MATE w. Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS and am
manually tracking released updates/fixes every few days, and the problem
persists.

Mmm…
I had « the bug » once yesterday.
Maybe I can narrow down a bit its context.
After using some sessions on the machine ( meaning : all sessions work
and I'm able to switch between all of them, using « change user » ) I
went back to the login screen where one can chose an user. But I had to
