Another symptom is that opening and then closing the laptop lid leaves
two of the external monitors unusable - the desktop images on the
monitors are unchanged but windows can't be interacted with. The only
way I have found to fix this is to open a terminal on the one working

Since certain update this same behavior occurs on Ubuntu 20.04. Gnome
shell appindicator icons are not shown for applications set to start
automatically with user log in. Tested with copyq and owncloud-client.
Tray icons appear when the the respective app is started manually after
user logs in.

Ah right, yes. I agree. Such a long list of extensions really should be
expected to be broken already as extensions often are. I don't think
it's sensible to block on those.

2. Clean install Ubuntu 20.04
2. A black screen appears on the system.

I meant that my reply to comment #3 that those broken extensions should
not be considered as regressions with gnome-shell 3.36.7 because they
are already broken from the beginning.
All of those extensions are already up-to-date upstream and in Debian.

I've had the "Desktop Icons" disabled for a while now, and it doesn't
solve the problem but it feels like it is less frequent.
It most often happens when I open a new terminal.
