Hi there,
I am experiencing what seems to be the same issue.
When booting, LightDM greeter sounds but screen is black. This happens
if I logout as well. Closing the lid of the laptop to make it go to
sleep and re-opening allows me to see lightDM login screen.

Got around my foul up in a REALLY ugly manner.
started with a couple iterations of :
dpkg -l | grep texlive | awk '{print $2}' | sort | xargs dpkg -r
this cleared out a lot of the easy to hit cruft with no dependency
issues.
Then I finished off by hitting what i could with specific called out
- Disable cascadeFindFirstFit
The cause of segfault, so reference to null pointer
std::sort (belowSorted.begin(), belowSorted.end(), compareTopmost);
I got the log message using compLogMessage() function.
You can got the message in console, to do this, type #compiz --replace ccp

I thought it was that Unity in Ubuntu 14.04 requires 3D acceleration but if so,
why does Unity work when run in VirtualBox without 3D acceleration, and also

Thanks Pete, so glad I found your comment. I was struggling trying to
understand why it would work as root and not as normal user. Initially I
was looking for some udev rules (permissions etc), but in the end
through strace it turned out to be what is described here.

Thank you for taking the time to report this crash and helping to make
this software better. This particular crash has already been reported
and is a duplicate of bug #1371857, so is being marked as such.
My meaning was "if svxcore deals with database stuff, it is normal it
uses a database stuff utility functions library".
Another approach would be to tailor what's in dbtools. Maybe we can move
stuff from it to another library if it helps?

Just confirming quickly: I reproduce this bug with --enable-mergedlibs
and it goes away without mergedlibs. Reducing severity to normal as
--enable-mergedlibs is currently not used for upstream builds.

1:4.3.2~rc2-0ubuntu1~trusty2 - and the problem is fixed.

I am not really against dbtools in libmerged, it surely has its reasons.

libmerged just to fix circular dependency without checking it's OK.
