I can confirm that this bug is still present in Ubuntu 13.04.
Typically, you'd expect the cursor to change to something progressive
(like an hour-glass or an animated cursor) to indicate that Ubuntu is
"trying to do something". Instead, the system always seems to be locked
up until login completes

worked for me, too. If it's a bug in Rhythmbox itself then I'd be happy
to attempt a fix it if a maintainer or other expert in the source code

I can confirm the problem for Ubuntu 13.04. The problem is that the
"ghostscript" package does not contain pdfopt, but just its manpage. I

cycle.

HDMI does not even appear as an option in the Sound Settings under "Play
sound through". I had it working in archlinux before I switched back to
Ubuntu 13.04. There I had three options: Analog, Digital and HDMI.
As for the reporter, video works great over HDMI.

Downgraded to mesa package 9.0.3 and Unity and the launchers appeared as
expected.
Upon upgrading to the 9.1.1 package from 9.0.3 the reported issue of

I have the same error, but with slightly different circumstances. Using
Banshee 2.4.1 on xubuntu 12.04.02 (which I keep updated). I use gigolo
0.4.1 to connect my ipod touch (2nd gen IOS 4.2.1) and it looks like all
is updating fine, but doesn't end. The image he gives on imgur is spot
on.

As to why it appeated after dist-upgrade, the kcm configuration utility
wasnt installed by default before AFAIK. I have actually tested it when
it was quite new, ran into the same bug and uninstalled...

The problem is that the Konica Minolta PostScript printers have problems
with the PostScript produced by Ghostscript. The downgrade of cups-
filters makes Poppler being used to generate PostScript.
