Confirmed. Installing lightdm-gtk-greeter 1.1.1 provides no change.
Removing unity-greeter makes it impossible to log in at all. Like Phill
said, using virtual terminal to install unity-greeter and restart gets
us back to where we started. This fix actually provides a new problem.

Reproducable.
Grab upper edge of unity-greeter with alt+left mouse and drag it around.
Result:
Another unity-greeter is displayed underneath.
The images can change in number after each log-out, main image, second image

** Description changed:
Previously when using a root nautilus browser the global menu would be
disabled & nautilus's menu would return to the nautilus window.
This no longer happens & no menu is available in a root browser.
