I've found this bug page when looking for the solution to another problem.
Gnome-shell was crashing with the
gnome-shell-extensions-alternative-status-menu. The workaround I found was just
to set the picture in the user profile.
Then I've found User Accounts was crashing, what I wasn't aware of.
I now think this may be due to the fact that I keep my /home/jay/.local
directory as a symlink to /var/jay/.local on my SSD. This didn't used to
be a problem in Natty, so I don't know what changed.

The problem is getting worse and really, really annoying. Often, I do not

try to save the latest changes in the document via control-s.

That can't be right. I installed through the same ppa while on Natty, and in
the upgrade to Oneiric it's still running fine.

Yes, that's correct. There are a large number of critical errors that
LightDM detects and quits if they occur.

I don't know which package this is, but it's *not* pam. The user is
reporting that the password entry is being removed, and this is not
something that the pam package does.
