Same problem for me on complete new install of 10.04.
I burned a standard CDR... it burned OK but didn't eject.
Right mouse clicking the CD icon on the desktop and selecting "Eject" works.
Brasero is obviously not calling the standard "eject" code as all other eject
methods seem to work.

Has nothing helped.
But is not important anymore, I totally uninstalled Totem.
Use only VLCplayer and mplayer frontend SMPlayer.
Totem has me totally dismissed
further investigation shows it is only trying to add the item "debian"
that causes the problem
