I too have the same issue but it doesn't take minutes.. it still under 1
minute for session loading. I also don't have an nvidia and i use the
default generated xorg.conf file.

metacity... i notice that on the first login there is a heavy load of
hard disk. If i logout and then i login again the session startup time
is normal. So this issue is related to the first login after boot.

Please sync with the last debian version that close debian bugs: #441930,
#416252.
This last version solve a bug about an use of a bogus check to detect which
screensaver
locking command to use that i think cause a problem on unlocking when
gnome-screen saver and xscreensaver are both installed
