I had the same problem using "sudo gedit .bash_history" I just changed
the argument to "sudo -H gedit .bash_history &>/dev/null" no more
problems.

The bug is reproduce-able, but not on demand. It is after running OS and
opening and closing Totem, Transmission, update...etc, but it happens on a
regular basis...three to four times a week. Sometimes I go to HOME and click
desktop and items appear...last time did not.

Very good. It does not happen when disabling Visual effects, and it does not
happen with any of the other emerald thes. It must be a compositing problem
with the Wombat Blue theme.

The process was copying files (avi) from a folder created in
Home/documents to the desktop by right clicking on the file and
selecting copy, and then right clicking on the desktop and pasting the
filecopying takes place, but after quite a few, the desktop will not
