Created .hidden folder/file stays visible after being created/deleted

Binary package hint: evolution
Since doing an upgrade today Evolution crashes as soon as I try to compose a
new mail message (e.g. by clicking "New" or replying to a message) or when
trying to edit an old one. Editing other things, such as tasks, goes fine.

Ok, I'll install those debug variants too. Live in Kenya, Internet
download speed (and prices) are issues here in East Africa, but I'll
try again whenever I get them.

Yes, what happens when trying that is that my computer freezes and I need to
restart. And when I start Evolution first, then gdb (like I have done above),
Evolution freezes instead of crashing on trying to create a message.
