Yes this is a power-management-related problem. I have the same issue in
my samsung X460. With AC power connected all work fine, while with
battery only the screen goes black when screensaver start. Replacement
with Xscreensaver apart, exist other solution now? I'm using Interpid
now...

This issue is still apparent in 10.10. I also sometimes get errors on my
dvd avi player after getting this message and trying to play the avi
files on my home dvd/avi player.
