This is after one day of listening. With every new song the amount of allocated
virtual memory grows by approx. 8mb.

ok, a remove all but last.fm plugins, run command line:
G_SLICE=always-malloc G_DEBUG=gc-friendly valgrind -v --tool=memcheck
--leak-check=full --num-callers=40 --log-file=valgrind.log `which rhythmbox`
hit next few times and quit.

restating my problem. I installed and launched compiz. While
attempting to engage some of the features my unity utility and
application launcher disappeared in my administrative log account. I am
also unable to log off or long on to another user account from this
account.
