I can confirm this bug on Ubuntu Hardy Heron (64bit version).
Totem stops to buffer any two seconds when playing any of the trailers here:

The codec of those streams is H.264 / AVC.

I have XFCE'S compositing effects enabled and then it shows the desktop content
on unlock dialog.
Disabling the compositing effects resolves the bug.
