I dont think removing the sound is ideal.
AFAIK , it is the same sound which is used for alerts... which ask for
overwrite confirmation, when using the "Save as..." option and the same file

This is still an issue in Karmic.
The problems arises when the net traffic is very high ,[torrent
downloads or ... ] evolution is not able to contact the server and
settings get borked!
This happened several times for me , always during torrent downloads ,
I ended up with ~1000 mails! in my inbo
This problem seems resolved... the thumbnails are displayed , and i havent
noticed any problems recently.
Not sure which update has fixed this issue.

by default.
If the toolbar is displayed by default ,the user can switch to the edit mode
from the toolbar.

Until recently I kept selecting the category "Import Tags" expecting the
F-spot app to ask/allow me to import tags from some location/app.
The "Import tags" option sounds more like an action a user can perform
rather than a collection of tags which are automatically added fro
