I suppose I should just learn how to make an Ubuntu package. But you can
use the (fairly complete) famfamfam flags icon set from
http://www.famfamfam.com/lab/icons/flags/, which is "free for any
purpose with no requirement for attribution" to get really nice looking
flag icons for the keyboard layo
An XFCE forum post[0] tangentially mentions a change[1] to
/usr/share/mime/packages/freedesktop.org.xml which causes -- I suppose,
I didn't fully comprehend -- a recursive lookup inside of some kind of
MIME database or configuration file. That there are other, related
bugfixes in some Gtk or GIO-ad
Additional note: I was unable to reproduce this (at least, as trivially
as with elementary OS' Files app) in a VM with a fresh, fully-updated
installation of 20.04.06 Focal Fossa.
