On my side I'm still able to reproduce the problem but only using the
desktop without any 3D effect. The "glitch" is smoother now but still
appears. Have a look at the newly attached file.
If I use the desktop effects everything works well.

Sorry for the delay. I reopen this issue because the defect is still
visible (I'm using 8.04.1).
With the 3D desktop effect disabled:
- It's still happening with Gnome and KDE 3.x
- It's not happening with KDE 4.x
- On Xfce, it's happening only when dropping the icon!?

My Feisty is up to date too...
Sorry I did not use the tool correctly. I was trying to make a "region"
for the screen shot.
If I correctly select a window the screen shot works fine.
But if I click on the desktop background I get the attached picture...
