I can confirm, removing ~/.gconf did the trick.
i had 20%-30% constant cpu on gconf-2 like all my collegs above, after fresh
install ubuntu ibex with seperate /home partition, which caries all the
configurations since feisty...

deleting ~/.gconf is not a solution after all:
it came back,
today, one week later, gconf-2 pushes cpu to 20%.
this is bad.
i cannot always delete ~/.gconf, because i will have to reconfigure everything
again,
i consider this as a bad bug.

it complains of blank CD having no free space.
my solution was easy:
install gnomebaker, burn CD.

it is not deleting ANY files that solves the problem, but simply restarting
xserver with ctrl+alt+backspace does the trick. bizarrr

the following did the trick:
i wrote a delay-script for starting up compiz. delayed for 10sec.
since than gconf2 is quiet, behaving nomal.
1)
system>preferences>appearance>visual effects> set to "none"
2)
open terminal and do:
$ sudo gedit /home/where/ever/compizdelay.sh
paste this text and

i am experiencing simliar problems:
xubuntu hardy 8.04 64bit,
when compiz is on an rhythmbox playing, and i am browsing on firefox,
rhythmbox interrups playback.
viewing "top" shows a short dramatic increase of CPU due to Xorg up to 100%.

my gnome-screensaver won't get dark, it stops half way.
btw: this application s*cks big time and resources when glitz-apps running, you
can see gnome-screensaver going up with cpu-usage to around 20%,
it is simply irritating and the best way to save screens, i thought, is to
switch them off / put

that worked for me, gnome-screensaver now able to fade out completely.

i have the same problem.
eject device in right-click mouse does not work since feisty.
thats a pity, cause on this point it feels like windows xp, where its a hell to
eject external devices.

sorry, update to previous message: sudo eject /media/XXX works better
than sudo umount /media/XXX because external HDD powers off correctly.

Well, as i now it, it was always eject option on right-click, in edgy and in
feisty.
eject in feisty didn't work after an upgrade and after another upgrade one week
ago, option eject is replaced by unmount.
under terminal the option sudo eject /dev/blabla works fine.
