Used live CD 20060414, there is no 20060415. My LAN printer is HP DeskJet 5850
with static IP 192.168.1.63. It is not detected by Gnome Printing Manager (GPM)
when checking Detect LAN Printers in the Global Settings. Installing manually
in GPM is still not possible, as the option AppSocket/HPJet
See my latest comment re bug 27239, I've not been able to install the printer
in live-CD 20060414, so can't check whether the double-sided issue when
printing pdfLaTeX-produced PDF files persists.

I have been able to successfully install an AppSocket/HPJetDirect printer with
Gnome-Cups-Manager using Dapper AMD64 Live-CD Flight 6 (dated 31 March 2006). I
selected type HPJetDirect (obviously), typed in the IP of the printer under URI
(without socket:// prefix), chose HP (HPLIP) and the driv
It worked in Dapper Flight 6 (see previous message), but fails again in Dapper
Beta. This is what I did in Dapper Beta:
0. Hit New Printer.
1. Select Network Printer, type HP JetDirect.
2. URI: 192.168.1.63 (Port: 9100)
3. Manufacturer: HP

I installed Dapper Beta2 today (7 May 2006) and did an apt-get update. My
network printer installs OK: as an HP JetDirect printer, using as URI its LAN
address (192.168.1.63) without any prefix (like socket:// or hp:/), and chose
the HP DeskJet 5850 recom
Though the HPLIP way of installing printers still does not work, my HP network
printer can be installed in Dapper (Beta2 plus updates as of 7 May 2006). I was
able to install my HP DeskJet 5850 network printer OK:
- choose HP JetDirect printer
- URI: 192.168.1.63, (your IP may differ)
without
I just entered the regular IP address of the printer (in my case 192.168.1.63),
without any prefix like socket:// or hp:/net/deskjet_5800?ip=192.168.1.63. The
port 9100 was already indicated.
This printer now works for me, but -- admittedly -- it is still not the HPLIP
setup; so commands like h

Same problem in my 32-bit version. Anything in GUI requiring permission
seems not to work (bug #1424362) . E.g. I was unable also to change the
video driver.

This bug and #1424362 were likely introduced in the beta-versions of
Lubuntu Vivid Vervet as alpha-versions both on my 32-bit and 64-bit
systems do not show these even after being updated.

No, I installed xubuntu-desktop on top of Lubuntu 15.04 having bug
#1424362 and #1429531. This XFCE works w/o bugs since PolicyKit
Authentication Agent is ticked on by default. When manually ticking off,
these bugs also appear with XFCE DE. Meanwhile this installation has
crashed due to last night

script which mounts three smb shares.

/etc/default/apport is already enabled, and there is a crash report
file.
double click on the crash report says:
The problem cannot be reported:
The program crashed on an assertion failure, but the message could not be
retrieved.
Apport does not support reporting these crashes.
What should I d
I changed the status back to new to make sure this issue is looked at again.
If it was not correct to do so, please tell me (and I am sorry)

Several programmes in Edgy (like Evolution) make use of gnome-keyring or
gnome-keyring-manager. The use of a keyring is of limited benefit to
home users, and should IMHO not be automatically forced upon them. In my
case, I have tried
