This just hit me as well. Exact same issue and terminal readout.
I am at an internet cafe now, so I will try again at home in case it is an
issue with the ISP

as an added observation, Evolution doesn't seem to load my inbox files.
ie, I don't see any of my existing emails, however the
~.evolution/mail/local/inbox file seems to be fine (and I hope to got it
is...)

Interesting, I am home now and evolution works fine.

If you are not sure you are using AWN, you are not using it...
I found a solution to my problem, it is actually a compiz error. I had
to set the number of virtual desktops to 1, not 4. I still have 4
horizontal workspaces and 1 vertical workspace. this seems kind of
counter-intuitive, but it works.
I have the same problem, I was using AWN desktop switcher, but when I
switch desktops I loose all my desktop icons, AWN crashes and I need to
restart my session.
