My PSC 1401 fails in the new flight-5 dapper too, it sometimes works but
much of the time it prints out solid black squares where the picture
should be. When I try to configure it to use the HP (HPLIP) -- HP PSC
1400 drive

In fact, I have tryed both interfaces the USB one, and the
"hp:/hppscgarblegook serial#=xxx" one, it seems to not matter and
always goes back to the "HP PSC 500" driver when i try to reconfigure.

I typed the command: "sudo sed -i 's/HP (HPLIP)/HP/' /usr/share/ppd/hplip/*"

Well, I recently had to print a science paper involving clipart. The
Text (with all formatting) Printed perfectly, whereas (unfortunatly) the
clipart printed as a jet-black rectangle instead of my stem cell
diagram. ) :
