I can confirm that the same thing happens on my asus 1215n. It used to
do it only when I had an external monitor plugged in, now it happens
all the time. Once or twice it froze the same way but after I selected
my user.

I am no longer having this problem, but when I was, I was unable to
switch consoles. Doing so would just lock up my laptop. I don't know if
this information is helpful.
