If you compile the newest (feisty) version of gnome-panel, there is no
"quit" (shutdown) option from the menu. There is only a "log out"
option. In order to shutdown you have to first logout to the login
manager and then shutdown from there

Yes, only using a build. Either the "Main Menu" or "Menu Bar" applet,
both do the same thing. Changing that gconf key doesn't have any
effect, and I did restart the computer to make sure.
The "Quit" option simply doesn't exist with the build versions. I even
downloaded a newer version of the s
By the way, I don't know if this is the place for feature requests, but
the reason I wanted to build gnome-panel is to remove the "arrow" on the
menu button. It is just one line in the file "panel-menu-button.c". If
it is possible to make this an option in gconf-editor, that would be
great.
