I have this bug too. I have seen multiple related problems with Core i-7
processors on x-58 MoBos with newer Nvidia cards, posted in other bugs

Also, I just tried restarting gnome settings daemon and it gave the same
error, but did not change anything on reboot. I tried running it with
sudo, and my desktop theme changed instantly, so maybe try sudo instead
of rebooting if rebooting doesn't work for you.

I just installed KDE to see what happens when I boot into it. Everything
works fine in KDE except gnome applications. Firefox and Transmission
are still showing the same rendering issues, while Konqurer and all
native KDE aps show properly rendered fonts and themes. Also I cannot

I forgot to say Bug #652731 shows that this happens with XFCE too. So
the problem is related to both Gnome and XFCE, which means it can be
narrowed down to something that is common between those two desktop
environments and the core i7 x58 with newer Nvidia graphics card
combinations.

Same here... I upgraded to FF4, then had to upgrade to natty, enjoyed
the new GUI for a bit, then needed my awesome wm back, so I logged into
Ubuntu Gnome classic from gdm, only to find awesome gone. :-(
Hopefully I can figure it out. If I do, I'll post back. If I can't, I'll

Puzzles is, that i prefer to play very difficult puzzles only. So the
number of other available puzzles easily exceeds the number of 90
without any very difficult puzzle being available. So it would be better

I run the dwn windows manager from suckless.org: a minimalistic windows manager.
Nautilus runs fine in all instances, except when attempting to change the
background with the following command:
$ feh --bg-center /path/to/some/image.jpg

Your 'if' failed: despite gnome-desktop being installed, I am not using it.
Nautilus is launched with the following command:
$ nautilus .
It then sets a desktop which is simply another X window.

gpm_cell_array_get_time_until_action. However, "debian/rules patch" applies it
in gpm_cell_array_update. Apparently, because upstream already made the change
in gpm_cell_array_get

metacity fails to show any window decorations after dist-upgrade from
edgy to feisty
Exactly that: metacity opens, no errors on the logs, and yet there are no
window frames or edges or buttons.
Plus, windows don't get focus when clicked.

$ metacity &
solves the problem. But there are others. For example, my session should
launch an xterm -it does so, AFTER about a minute an a half (this is a
core2 duo 2.33GHz Thinkpad T60p, and edgy did so in a split second).
Same with gnome splash: remains there forever, until clicked.
st-upgrade yesterday, gnome does not even boot fully:
the screen remains orange for at least 2 minutes, with the gnome splash
showing two icons and "Metacity window manager" as text, which
disappears on click. The desktop never shows. I have to kill the X
server to get out.
So matters go
Vytas: It seems like the easiest fix in the short term would be to
revert File-Roller to using the older protocol. Is someone willing to do
this (soon)? Thanks

Thank you! Finally! I knew it had to be some silly setting -dapper to edgy had
the same problem with gtk2 apps: some silly setting.
So I moved .gnomerc to the trash and finally my gnome desktop is working
properly.
The file ,gnomerc contained a dozen white lines and this one line:
export WINDOW
The bug went away after two updates towards feisty final. Thanks for
caring anyway.
