yes I use compiz fusion. I have also checked this in debain and found the
feature to work with compiz fusion enabled, hence the fact I think it's a
Ubuntu bug.

Currently in the deskbar-applet (gutsy), if you type the name of an
application and select "switch to", the applet will switch to the
correct display for the application however fail to bring the
application to the front. I believe this is
