This annoying bug affects me also since the release of Karmic. After
startup, in 80% times the Notification area is messed up, icons are
duplicated and sometimes the sound is muted.
NVidia FX5200 video card here, if it has anything to do with it. I never
had this issue on previous Ubuntu releases.
I confirm this behavior on Brasero 2.26.1. The ISO file and the burned
CD have the same md5 hash value, but Brasero reports that the md5 hash
for CD is different:
ERROR WHILE BURNING - SOME FILES MAY BE CORRUPTED ON THE DISC

I also have a similar bug. After restart, very often the Network Manager
Applet doesn't show up on Notification Area, but instead two icons of
Screenlets Daemon are displayed:
