As a workaround, http://parcellite.sourceforge.net/ seems to be solving
this just fine somehow, while even giving the expanded functionality of
being able to go in history of clipboard (so you can ctrl+c, ctrl+c,
ctrl+v, ctrl+v) while being very lightweight (4.7mb for me atm with
indicator-applet 6

Sorry, that's not really practical to do on a production system.
That said, the issue could have been because there wasn't enough disk
space. Clearing it up and rebooting seems to have solved things. This is
a change in behaviour from previous Ubuntu releases.

Hmm. What I did was load into recovery mode which allowed me to install and
uninstall packages - there I uninstalled lightgdm and ran the suggested
dpkg-config command to setup gdm.

The unlock screen that you get after locking the computer will sometimes
not accept the correct password. If I switch to tty1 I can login with
the same, correct password fine and if I reboot the computer (lose all
my open apps and unsaved data), the password works fine as well
Second time does not work for me - neither the third, nor the tenth.
Once I lock the screen, there is a chance the GNOME environment will
reject all password attempts to lock it and I have to lose all my work
by forcing a restart. This is a very serious problem.
Is there a workaround available?

I wouldn't like going to a preference option each time I want to toggle. I
use the buttons primarily, but there are often cases when the line is
helpful too - and the button being right there is awfully helpful.

No I wouldn't, but what else are .bins opened with usually?
I can't think of anything but actually executing a .bin (binary) file.

I don't see a reason for leaving .Trash-1000 on the users drive either,
after they were even asked to clean up they trash, and they -did-. Not
all OS's respect the period either, so to the user it seems like Ubuntu
didn't do it's job of cleaning properly to begin with.

Not sure where the issue lies now. You can try upgrading to 2.6 as he
recommended

This isn't reproducible each time. In fact I got it once with "levels"
only, and couldn't repeat it ever again...
We'll need a solid test case before reporting it to Gimp people.

Changing to fix commited, because per this bug
(http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=316361#c8), they fixed it in
gnome already and this just needs to come down to ubuntu.
