Ok, I've fixed the problem for myself, but probably not the bug itself.
After a bit of googling, I found that some others were also having the
same problem with GNOME. Running this command fixed the issue to an
extent:

system either. I did delete the entire .gnome2 directory to fix some
issues I was having with an unsuccessful upgrade, so maybe it is

Perhaps an extra piece of info which may be useful - I've recently bought a
Western Digital Passport portable hard drive. The USB transfer rates with this

Please also look at comments 96 and 97. This is a regression which could
be considered a security issue as the desktop is visible when the screen
is supposed to be switched off. I've tested it with hardy-proposed

Take a look at the bug data of duplicate bug 262981, which is a similar
crash. There a message was selected and delete button was pressed.
Only thing I noticed in both cases is that the internet connection was
unstable and slow at the time, but that shouldn't have made evolution
crash.
