On copying larger files, my system syslog showed multiple times
usb 9-2.4: reset SuperSpeed USB device number 4 using xhci_hcd
As root the following command line fixed the issue with the usb storage driver
modprobe -v usb-storage quirks=0x174c:
Regarding my previous comment - much better to add this line to a file
in /etc/modprobe.d/
e.g. usbquirks.conf

I have reinstalled Ubuntu 10.04 since and all is good. However, I have
downloaded Ubuntu 10.10 and tried to boot the Live CD. I get to the
point where I have the Ubuntu logo with dots under it. It blinks through
the dots for a little while then it just hangs. Not a big issue since I
like Ubuntu 10.

This holds true for ALL drop-down-selects within ALL Gnome settings-dialogues,
which have a drop-down-select. This is even true for most programs, whenn
running within Gnome (e.g. Nautilus).
This is a very basic-feature, every program should be capable of. EVERY
drop-down-select ANYWHERE in a UI
This is still present in Natty for me. There is no Hibernate option
available and it absolutely impossible to determine the reason. BTW
swsusp mechanism is working fine when running from the console.

I can not say for sure what version I had before. But I downgraded to
version 2.30.0-0ubuntu5 now to test and this version works fine. I did
not tune anything in the configuration.

I have the standard gdm greeter with only a login button. Once I press
this usually the login field appears to enter a username. But If I press
this button now the whole xserver restarts. Sometimes it crashes and a
new instance on the same screen 0 is started. Sometimes it is started in
a consecuti

Indeed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/579044 looks extremely similar,
however I never did disable user listing nor do I have such setting in
my gconf files. But the result seems to be the same. Somehow I do not
have a user list and this results in a crash. Further more a have no
custom.conf which
Ok, found the problem. I have an uid of 500 for me. This is for
historical reasons to be compatible with any backups. So I had the user
list feature already enabled but by default only users with an uid of
1000 and above have been listed in the new gdm. This is why I had only
the login button visib

I tried to burn a video file as a Video DVD. Brasero started converting
the file into MPEG2. When Brasero reached approx. 60%, it crashed.

I get the password prompt and it looks to log me in because I do not get
an authentication error ( I do if type in the password incorrectly) but,
I am quickly returned to the password prompt.

I still have this bug in Lucid with version 195.36.08-0ubuntu2
installed. Hue seems messed up even time Totem loads a new video. typing
"nvidia-settings --assign=XVideoTextureHue=0" while any video is playing
