Public bug reported:
Evolution crashes reliably when adding a contact to a webdav address
book. This bug is new in ubuntu 12.04. I've tried http and https, no
difference.
$ apt-cache policy evolution

Adding a contact on a 32 bit system seems to work, while updating it
fails on 32 bit as well as on 64 bit.

Meanwhile I have deleted all directories called "evolution" that I could
find in my home directory and I have removed all gconf settings. The
problem persists.

I have the same problem with natty. It's a WebDAV addressbook. As soon
as I open a contact and save it, the birthday is dispayed in the
calendar. The addressbook is marked to be downloaded for offline work,
so evolution should be aware of the birthdays and anniversaries.
