In Debian we do this in the Debian installer because it is running

Breaking the very standard behavior of right control in all applications
(e.g. xterminals!!) is really not acceptable, compared to the few issues
that the behavior has without it.

I too believe that Andreas' proposal is the right one. It permits people
who really want the extra 5th level to be able to easily get it, while
not breaking the 99% usual usage.
Just for the record, I had not seen the linuxfr discussion. I guess
mostly only people who would want the extra 5th leve

Hi,
Just a notice: brltty doesn't _depend_ on libbraille. It can use it if
it is available, but this is not mandatory. Brltty already has a _lot_
of drivers, and I even wonder whether using libbraille provides any
better

And BTW, you don't need to have any braille device for testing brltty.
Just use the xw (XWindow) driver. See Documents/README.Gnopernicus and
BrailleDrivers/XWindow/README
