Intrep
After a little more digging I found that the OS considers the volume
down button to be XF86AudioStop and the volume up button to be
XF86AudioRewind. Reassigning the keys in keyboard prefferences works to
solve the problem, but due to the redundant mapping loses the stop
hotkey

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: rhythmbox
I recently updated to Intrepid. The package of rhythmbox included in
Intrepid treats the volume down button on my keyboard (thinkpad x60) as
a stop signal.
ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.10
ExecutablePath: /usr/bin
