I just did a fresh installation of karmic, upgraded all my packages, and
I have gdm 2.28.1, yet this tool-tip still appears. Was there some kind
of regression?

Here is my .gtk-bookmarks file, and I've also attached a screenshot of
my Places menu where you can see the Desktop appears twice.

I can confirm that the bug persists (or appears to have returned) with
the latest compiz update and the fglrx driver.
