Ok, so this is progress. Building against gnutls fixes the trust
pairing, but breaks file transfers. I rebuild the same source with
openssl vs gnutls and that's exactly what I see. With openssl I have to
re-pair every time I plug in but with gnutls, the file transfers don't

That's unfortunate. Basically, without those google extensions, MTP can
only do full-file copies. It can read a file off the device or send a
file. It can't let you read a little bit of a file, or selectively

The alert is a function of nautilus and gnome-settings-daemon. The
first shows the error and the second one decides whether to automount or
not. Gvfs isn't really in a position to control how the detection events
are responded to.

on MTP devices, and the new nautilus will just disable 'Del' in that

Are you trying to plug it into a USB3 port. There seems to be some
compatibility problem between the galaxy note and usb3 ports. It will
connect and then almost instantly disconnect afterwards - leading to
this crash - of course, it's not the crash that's stopping it working.

Unfortunately, these newer Motorola devices appear as... wait for it...
a CDROM drive.
The CD image contains the installer for some windows software that they
want you to run, which will send a magic USB packet to the phone to
switch it into MTP mode. That's really what's going on. I haven'

gvfsd-mtp crashed with SIGS
The multiplexer daemon is generally considered the right approach. Media
players use parts of mtp that don't apply to gvfs so it's not a
candidate to serve as the multiplexer. But this is a bunch of work and
isn't going to happen soon.
