As my desktop starts it becomes completely blank. I can hear the the
ubuntu sound. Then I have to go one tty and restart gdm from there. Then
whole thing works fine

I had this problem intermittently. During the course of troubleshooting
it, I disabled the beagle-live plugin and it went away, but I can't say
for sure that this was the problem since it was intermittent to begin
with.

Works fine for me in repeat, shuffle, and linear mode. Does this happen
with a minimum number of songs on the playlist? Is the playlist loaded
as a .m3u file, or as a group of mp3 files?
Also, if you can reproduce this, can you start totem in a terminal, and
post the output just before it freezes,
Cannot reproduce with either totem-xine or totem-gstreamer.

An easy workaround till Rhythmbox gets that functionality:
1. Select all the files in the playlist you want to burn (using Ctrl+A inside
Rhythmbox).
2. Create a new data CD/DVD project in Brasero Disc Burner (found in
applications > sound & video).
3. Drag and drop the selected files from Rhythm

the problem is not with nautilus. it is probably the nvidia usb
controller driver in maverick and natty which is screwed. does anyone
know a way to unload the driver from the kernel and load the driver from
lucid?

@Jan: I can confirm that. My laptop's still running lucid and i noticed
it first in maverick when i tried it for a short time. my machine has
the nvidia mcp51 chipset. however i am not sure if the problem affects
nvidia chipsets alone, ive seen some people with intel machines also
encountering this
Im assuming we need a distribution with kernel version>=2.6.35. that's
the one which shipped with maverick.
