I just experienced similar problems in 8.10 Intrepid. Here is what was
happening:
1) Click on the menu to launch nautilus (Places ->Home Folder)
2) Nautilus launches, turns grey within 10 seconds, and consumes 90%+ cpu. Only
way out is to kill the nautilus window
3) I did a reboot but still happe
Still getting this problem occasionally. The method of removing the
index files in post #6 works for me, though with a long startup time for
evolution after doing it while the index files are reinstated.
Evolution only appears on screen when this is finished.
The fundamental problem of indexes ge
"noatime, nodirtime" hasn't improved the situation on my PC much, if at
all. Copying speed is still all over the place, one time it'll copy
fine, the next it stalls every couple of megabytes, blocking file i/o to
any other device connected to the system and stalling the gui.

I am closing this bug because in Hardy it appears to be fixed, I had
this issue for a while, but just tested it when running Hardy and it
appears to be gone.
If you experience this bug again please do not hesitate to re-open this

I've commented before, but I'll say it again - resizing is unbelievably
difficult at 1920x1280 resolution. Near impossible in fact. I
routinely use "ALT-Space R" now. Trying to hit a one pixel (it feels

accessibility issues implied by
Some "gnome" apps have a resize corner, like Nautilus, but most GTK+
generic apps don't - Avidemux, Thunderbird, Firefox, DeVeDe and so on.
In fact, many gnome apps themselves don't bother with the resize corner
- look at the terminal for example.
Besides, that doesn't help you much when you want
What resolution are you running at? Are you seriously suggestion that
because YOU don't have a problem resizing, then everyone else who's

You say that if I don't like the default, change it. How? How do you
make grab borders bigger in Ubuntu?

I have managed to manually hack the theme files to allow for a larger
border. Obviously, not really a solution and use at your own risk, but
as long you make a back of the file involved (an xml file), you should
have an easy time following this.
After some searching, it turns out that the pre-dis
Chrome on Windows uses a Download directory, but helpfully has a 'show
all downloads' link as well. Can the Firefox download manager be altered
so that it has a 'show all downloads' link?
Then the Download directory can be anywhere.
