You can have a look at the upstream report: the last patch I posted
should make the dialog set its size *before* it's shown, which fixes all
the problems mentioned here. In addition, GTK 2.16 will always remember
the size you set manually to the dialog. I guess this is all that can
make you happy!
I've tried reproducing this problem with a testcase document with Jaunty
packages (Evince 2.25 and poppler 0.10.3), and I'm glad to tell you the
bug seems to be fixed. So I close it for now, but please reopen it if
you are still able to reproduce this crash when Jaunty is released.

Pedro: AFAIK the bug on GNOME's bugzilla is not the same at all. The
present report deals with a bug that appeared with the last SRU in
Intrepid (evolution 2.24.1.1-0ubuntu1 to 2.24.2-0ubuntu1), while the
remote one is from 2004 and is in calendar. At least this is how it
appeared for me. See [1] f
I've just checked downgrading to 2.24.1-0ubuntu2 (original version in
Intrepid), and I can confirm it solved this bug. Going back to
2.24.2-0ubuntu1 brought the problem again. Since the new version is
still in intrepid-proposed, I suggest it shouldn't enter -updates before
this is fixed.

Sebastien Bacher: Upstream identified the patch that broke things, it
was about password storage. A new version of the patch has already been
committed (see [1]), so Ubuntu can do the same ASAP instead of
committing the wrong patch.

At least there's an easy part to fix here: you shouldn't have to run

I think the right way to install totem-xine is only to issue:
sudo apt-get install totem-xine
totem-xine conflicts with totem-gstreamer, and the latter will be
removed automatically. totem is only a virtual package, no need to
remove it.

The GtkFileChooserDialog is resizing itself after being shown. This is
the root problem, which causes positioning issues even when the dialog
is not too small. This is a GTK bug, there are several rough patches
proposed upstream, and the commit that introduced the problem is
identified. Now, Compiz
AFAICS, there's no reason why a well-designed dialog should resize
itself immediately after being shown. So the bug is in GTK+, maybe
there's something in Compiz too but that's not the real source of the
issue. Please check that Metacity does not trigger this before going
further on that subject.

This is not actually a packaging problem. libdvdcss2 is only available
from medibuntu repositories since it cannot be included due to legal
issues about decrypting DVDs. What I'd like to see is a dialog allowing

I guess so. See upstream report - there's more work needed than a little
fix, as you would have to detect non-media files, remember what files
were asked for, and search for codecs in the background...

Martin: upstream marked the bug as obsolete because it should be fixed
in current 2.26 g-p-m (as you said, HAL events are not listened to now).
Since we ship 2.24, they don't bother about our bugs...

Are you using totem-gstreamer or totem-xine?
Normally installing libdvdcss2 from Medibuntu should work, but could you try to
get it by running:
/usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh
Maybe there's a prob

This happens with CSS-encrypted DVDs, others work right.
