Please check if you can open videos-dvds with the vlc-media player.
You can install it easily, the packages name is vlc.

When renaming multiple files, gthumb does not change filename-extensions.
As a result, the new files can have mixed uppercase/lowercase
filename-extensions.
Example:
A.JPG -> newname01.JPG
b.jpg -> newname02.jpg
In my opinion gthumb should rename files with lowercase filenam
erm,resolved that by substituting the %e, standing for "original
extension" with ".jpg".
