I am using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, with gdm version 2.30.2.is.2.30.0-0ubuntu3.
When another Window Manager is installed that gdm adds as an option to
run with Gnome, for example e16, selecting the "e16 Gnome" option will
cause the normal "Gnome" and "Fails

Just a quick note - the lack of 3D effects were solved simply by going
into System > Preferences > Appearance > Visual Effects and turning them
